There’s something to be said about planning a wedding for almost 2 years: expectations are high and the excitement that builds is almost overwhelming. The entire first part of this year was truly dedicated to making sure our special day was the day of our dreams. I have always loved event planning (and even majored in Hospitality Management in college!) so it was natural for me to really make sure I planned it all. I know it has taken me forever, but finally… here are photos from the best day ever!
Now that the honeymoon phase is over, I can honestly say that planning this wedding was truly one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had. Looking through our wedding album here and seeing how perfectly everything came together is so much fun to relive. It’s so crazy to dream all these big dreams and actually have them come true. Having your prince charming and being surrounded by the best family and friends doesn’t hurt, either. I never knew just how much people loved and supported our relationship, but having everyone we love in one room really made it clear.
The hardest part for me about planning was in the beginning: giving up my dreams of a California wedding. Getting married in Queens (where we met and have lived together for years) turned out to be better than we anticipated. I knew this would be a destination wedding for many, including my entire family, so having the ceremony and reception locations nearby was incredibly important to us. We also really wanted to have the ease of a hotel wedding without having the look and style of a traditional hotel wedding. White Elephant Events really helped make sure to design and transform the space completely, from a raw and bare room to a gorgeous secret garden.
There were tons of DIY elements that made the wedding even more personal and special. My mom and friends ironed on the wedding logo to all those little bags, made all the paper cranes you see in the wedding video, and a friend made every single one of the custom match books. Although the wedding invites were designed by a professional, friends came over every single night for a week to help me DIY them, adding texture by embossing and gluing them onto thicker cardstock, etc. I spray painted all the gold candle holders and purchased the colored taper candle sticks myself. It was so fun to see all the beautiful colors come together to create a cohesive look. I really could not pick a color (can you tell?!) and it was the best decision I never made. The bridesmaid dresses, the bouquets, everything was better than I could have dreamed it.
I would love to say I remember every single moment from this day, but the truth is I was so “blissed out” that it is all a blurry, beautiful haze. I remember waking up the morning of in complete and total shock, I remember walking down the aisle, I remember nearly sobbing saying my vows, and I remember kissing the man of my dreams. Having everyone there, giving us so much love and rooting for us as we began our lives together was a truly magical thing that I’m not sure I will ever get over. And it’s all so much more beautiful because not only is this my husband, but he is about to be the father of our baby!
We really could not have done any of this without our amazing family, friends, and vendors. I am so grateful and will always continue to be in complete shock that our beautiful dream wedding day came true. Here’s to Happily Ever After!
