Review: October 2015 Birchbox

This is my final month with BirchBox and I’m so sad that it’s over! Wah! I’ve had so much fun discovering new products every month. And I’ve even enjoyed finding new ways to store all that colored eyeliner they send my way (because when am I ever going to line my eyes with purple? Birchbox thinks I’m way cooler than I actually am). Onto the review!

The “Positive Force” October 2015 BirchBox definitely sent me the right message at the right time. Not that I’m in a negative spiral or anything, but couldn’t everyone use a reminder to be a positive force and use their powers for good? ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING and I’m going to keep saying it over and over and over again because why not?

Let’s start off this review by saying that the box itself is the most beautiful. The logo is gold foil, and the box itself is reminiscent of a geode in my favorite color! I know I’ve said the other boxes were my favorite but this time I mean it.

BioRepublic Skincare Pomegranate Crush Illuminating Mask Set, $14.50

Description: Infused with pomegranate and green tea extract, the masks smooth and nourish your complexion for radiant, even skin. What’s more, the biodegradable sheets fit the contours of your face to avoid slipping and sliding—so you can sit back and relax while your mask does its work.

I haven’t used this yet but I have a feeling it will make me look like an insane person. I’m excited, though, because my complexion is really off thanks to all the fun new adult acne scars I have! What gives, world? I would have much rather had acne as a 16 year old than 6 months before my wedding. Ugh.

Vasanti® BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator, $34.00

Description: This powerful exfoliator mimics the results of professional microdermabrasion, minus the potential for redness and sensitivity. First, papaya enzymes break down dead cells while evening out your skin tone. Next, dermatologist-approved microderm crystals fade the appearance of fine lines and acne scars, leaving skin smooth and free of imperfections. Finally, aloe vera, coconut, and vitamins B and E nourish fresh skin to keep it free of irritation.

This is my favorite product in the box. I love a good exfoliator. It’s similar to the Dr. Brandt one that was in May’s Box: the microderm crystals feel like sand on my skin and are so tiny you can’t actually see them. And when rinsing it off my skin feels clean AF. Love it.

R+Co DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo: $29.00

Description: This dry shampoo will do more than clean up your hair. It will have your ’do taking after the famous landscape from which it draws its name: big, beautiful, and a little wild. A few spritzes of this spray zap excess oil, give hair serious volume and body, and add some too-great-to-be-tamed texture.

Dry shampoo: yay? I don’t know, I feel like Birchbox missed the beat here. I never use dry shampoo in the Fall or Winter because my hair is rarely oily enough to warrant it. So I haven’t used this. Whoops.

jane iredale HandDrink Hand Cream, $29.00

Description: We’ve got to hand it to this cream—it certainly knows how to treat thirsty skin. This ultra-hydrating,never-greasy lotion—recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation—quenches, renews, and evens skin tone, all while protecting our paws with broad-spectrum SPF 15 and special antioxidants. Plus, the combination of flower oils and fruit extracts leave hands feeling—and smelling—incredible.

Oh my goodness. My skin gets so messed up in the winter (I’ve had eczema since I was a kid) and my knuckles and hands usually get it the worst. I love this hand cream. It really leaves my hands feeling so smooth and lasts after multiple washes throughout the day. Best part? It’s truly not greasy – a must have in this tech world and in my computer heavy profession.

I’m going to miss having Birchbox delivered to my apartment every month. Thanks again to my sister in law for this awesome gift! If you want one for yourself or for a friend, be sure to sign up! It’s affordable and a beauty buff’s dream.
